EUROGIP is to launch a web series on occupational risks in Europe

Many of you have taken part in the EUROGIP Discussions since they were launched in 2003. The aim of this annual conference was to provide a European perspective on occupational risks in relation to a topical issue: the changing world of work, work-related mental diseases, financial incentives for prevention, digital technology, etc. With the same objective in mind, EUROGIP is preparing to launch a series of videos on the Internet.

Public consultation on the European Labour Authority (ETA)

In compliance with Regulation 2019/1149, the European Commission must carry out an evaluation of the European Labour Authority’s performance, that started operating in mid-2019. With respect of this evaluation, due by 1 August 2024 (and every 5 years after that), the Commission launched a call for evidence for public feedback by 5 January 2024.

SWEDEN: Serious accidents and long-term sick leave in the food industry

Workers in the food industry run a higher risk of serious accidents at work than other occupational groups. The average risk over the period 2017-2021 was 9.7 serious accidents at work per 1,000 employees. It was 15.5 for butchers and 8.9 for machine operators, who suffered the most serious accidents at work. Bakers and confectioners, although less affected, were still affected, with a rate of 5.3.

New tools and approaches for nanomaterial safety assessment, 7-9 February 2017, Malaga (Spain)

Jointly organized by five major FP7 projects NANOSOLUTIONS, SUN, NanoMILE, GUIDEnano, and eNanoMapper, the conference aims at presenting the main results achieved in the course of the projects fostering a discussion about their impact in the nanosafety field and possibilities for future research programmes.

“Working in good health in 2040”, INRS conference, 23 November 2016, Paris

In a robotized world, what place for human work? All nomadic workers? France: a service economy? These questions will be the focus of the long-range planning workshop on the consequences for health and safety of production systems and methods in 2040.

The conference will be held in Paris on Wednesday 23 November 2016. It is being organized by the French national research and safety institute INRS (Institut national de recherche et de sécurité pour la prévention des accidents du travail et des maladies professionnelles) together with the French Parliament.

To obtain access to the conference (in French), which will take place in the French Parliament, it is essential to register before 10 November.

EUROGIP Discussions 2017: A date for your diaries!

The next Eurogip Discussions (“Les Débats d’EUROGIP”) will be held on 2 March 2017 in Paris. They will address the subject of the economic impact – in the broadest sense – of occupational risk prevention in Europe.

The aim of this conference, that Eurogip has organized each year since 2003, is to cast a European spotlight on a topical issue. Speakers from various countries and Community bodies will discuss the question of the return on investment in risk prevention, but also more generally the economic impact that risk prevention may have at the corporate level, for the occupational injury and disease insurance organization, on the labour market, on society, etc.

A preliminary programme will be posted online from 15 December 2016.

Changing working conditions in Europe: Moving towards better work: Overview report of Eurofound s sixth European Working Conditions Survey, 17 November 2016, Brussels

Eurofound will present its sixth European Working Conditions Survey at a conference in Brussels organised jointly with the European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. The pan-European survey covers more than 43,000 face-to-face interviews with workers in 35 European countries. It maps changes in work over time and provides the first comprehensive image of job quality in Europe since the Great Recession. Its aim is to help policymakers improve working conditions and share evidence on people’s everyday scenarios at work.

“Musculoskeletal disorders due to repetitive activities”, 30 September 2016, St-Denis (France)

This meeting, organized by AFNOR and open to all, will focus on the NF X35-119 standard on “Ergonomics – High-frequency handling – Assessment and limit values of biomechanical strain for repetitive upper and lower limb tasks”. This cross-cutting subject concerns numerous workers who perform repetitive tasks.
