After four years’ work, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has announced the publication on 12 March 2018 of ISO 45001, the first international standard on management of occupational health and safety.<\/p>\n

Applied on a voluntary basis, this standard will propose to organizations (public and private) a management approach to occupational health and safety on the same model as ISO 9001 for quality and ISO 14001 for the environment.<\/p>\n

The draft document was approved by a final vote on 25 January 2018, with 62 votes in favour; nine countries abstained (Barbados, Chile, Cyprus, Greece, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland and Romania) and four countries (France, India, Spain and Turkey) did not approve the draft standard.<\/p>\n

The standard will be available via the national standards organizations either as a national standard if they have decided to carry this ISO reference document over into their collection, or as an ISO standard as in the case of France, where the ISO 45001 standard will not be carried over into a French standard. <\/p>\n

The technical specification ISO\/IEC TS 17021-10 “Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems — Part 10: Competence requirements for auditing and certification of occupational health and safety management systems”, likewise approved, will be published, in an English version only, soon after 12 March.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
