The European Commission published a Chemicals Strategy for SustainabilityTowards a Toxic-Free Environment<\/a> on 14 October 2020. It is part of the EU’s zero pollution ambition, which is a key commitment of the Green Pact for Europe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The objectives are to better protect citizens and the environment and to stimulate innovation for safe and sustainable chemicals.<\/p>\n

Flagship initiatives include: phasing out the most harmful substances in consumer products; minimising and replacing as far as possible the presence of substances of concern in all products; taking into account the combined effect of chemicals; ensuring that producers and consumers have access to information on chemical content and safe use.<\/p>\n

For Tony Musu, senior researcher at the ETUI <\/a>and expert on chemical risks, \u201cconsumers and the environment are the big beneficiaries of this strategy, but workers are the big forgotten ones\u201d.<\/p>\n
