On 23 January 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) extended the list of substances of very high concern for man or the environment that are candidates for authorisation to include five chemicals. One is toxic to reproduction, three are very persistent and bioaccumulative, and one presents multiple risks.<\/p>\n

These substances are found in everyday products such as inks, toners, adhesives and sealants, as well as in washing and cleaning products.<\/p>\n

ECHA has also updated the existing entry for dibutyl phthalate, revealing endocrine disrupting properties for the environment.<\/p>\n

The candidate list, which now comprises 240 entries, includes groups of chemicals, bringing the total number of substances of concern to a higher level. Under REACH, companies have legal obligations when their substance is included – on its own, in mixtures or in articles – in this list.<\/p>\n
