This is the call from the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) to mark European Mental Health Week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe epidemic of stress and burnout in Europe is worsening due to a combination of poorly organised work, work overload, the expectation of a culture of constant availability, job insecurity, new surveillance practices by employers and high-pressure working practices\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The ETUC regrets that there is no European legislation on psychosocial risks, despite the fact that :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Time pressure or work overload will increase from 19.5% to 46% between 2020 and 2022.<\/li>\n<li>44% of workers agree or strongly agree that they are experiencing more work-related stress as a result of the avian flu pandemic, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https:\/\/endstress.eu\/news\/benchmarking-europe-report-shows-severity-of-psr-crisis\/&amp;data=05|02|ljames@etuc.org|0caeb173a16f49d5b9c808dc74b4430a|7a57d45075f34a4da90dac04a367b91a|0|0|638513564786404391|Unknown|TWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0=|0|||&amp;sdata=c9+vsRymw64cPrznPBEZkrmRE7cIFYnUz5bc2tjNFlA=&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">EU-OSHA barometer<\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>More than 40% of cases of depression in the EU and UK are due to work-related psychosocial factors.<\/li>\n<li>People who regularly work from home are six times more likely to work in their spare time and twice as likely to work 48 hours.<\/li>\n<li>Less than 40% of EU companies have action plans to prevent psychosocial risks at work.<\/li>\n<li>The European economy loses \u20ac620 billion a year due to work-related depression.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.etuc.org\/fr\/pressrelease\/une-directive-sur-la-fin-du-stress-est-necessaire-pour-ameliorer-la-sante-mentale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">To find out more<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cA directive to end stress at work must be a priority for the next European Commission if it really wants to improve mental health in Europe\u201d.
