{"id":32998,"date":"2024-07-11T15:16:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T13:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/businesseuropes-position-on-teleworking-and-the-right-to-disconnect\/"},"modified":"2024-08-03T21:24:27","modified_gmt":"2024-08-03T19:24:27","slug":"businesseuropes-position-on-teleworking-and-the-right-to-disconnect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/en\/businesseuropes-position-on-teleworking-and-the-right-to-disconnect\/","title":{"rendered":"BusinessEurope&#8217;s position on teleworking and the right to disconnect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 25 June, BusinessEurope responded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/social\/BlobServlet?docId=27565&amp;langId=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">European Commission&#8217;s consultation<\/span><\/a> on the right to disconnect, pointing out that over-regulation could hamper the growth and benefits of teleworking and arguing for minimal EU intervention, leaving Member States, social partners and companies to develop their own policies.<\/p>\n<p>Its main arguments are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current legislation already covers many aspects of telework and the right to disconnect. It is better to strengthen their application than to create new rules.<\/li>\n<li>Telework and the right to disconnect are two issues with different opportunities and challenges; the Commission focuses too much on the risks to workers without balancing this with the needs of businesses.<\/li>\n<li>Flexibility and the uptake of telework could suffer from over-prescriptive regulation.<\/li>\n<li>Collective bargaining at national, sectoral and company level is seen as more effective. The 2002 autonomous framework agreement on telework is cited as a successful example.<\/li>\n<li>Imposing new legislative requirements would weaken the social partners and the role of social dialogue and create unnecessary administrative burdens.<\/li>\n<li>Any initiative on the right to time off must be consistent with the Working Time Directive.
