Launched in May 2023 for a period of 2 years, the Worklimate 2.0 project<\/u><\/a> aims to deepen knowledge of the effects of environmental heat stress on worker health and safety, company productivity and the social costs associated with ensuing workplace accidents.<\/p>\n

It was recently awarded the prize for the best project \u201cpromoting a culture of safety at work\u201d at the 27th edition of Ecomondo<\/u><\/a>, the leading trade fair for the green and circular economy in Europe and the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

Formula Ambiente Spa, a company specializing in the upkeep of green spaces, waste management and public infrastructure maintenance, supported the project by studying workers in the construction sector during the summer of 2023. On worksites in Trapani and Marsala (Sicily), employees were fitted with connected bracelets that measured their body temperature and blood oxygenation levels in real time.<\/p>\n

In addition to adjusting working hours and wearing new outfits, the results led to the implementation of a heat risk alert platform. In concrete terms, workers receive notifications via <\/i>WhatsApp informing them of increased heat risks and precautions to be taken. In terms of productivity, the system was able to predict the loss of performance per hour due to heat-related risks, offering a preventive approach to optimizing work management in extreme conditions.<\/p>\n
