On Wednesday 27 November, the European Parliament approved the new European Commission headed by Ursula von der Leyen, who is starting her second term in office. This green light still has to be validated by the European Council by a qualified majority. The new Commission is due to take office on 1 December.<\/p>\n

It comprises 27 Commissioners, one from each EU Member State. Among them, Roxana Minzatu (Romania) will take up the post of Executive Vice-President responsible for \u2018People, Skills and the State of Preparation\u2019. She will also hold the portfolio for \u2018Skills, Education and Culture, Quality Employment and Social Rights\u2019.<\/p>\n

According to Ursula von der Leyen, these subjects are part of the demographic challenge. \u2018In particular, Roxana will lead the work on the Skills Union and the European set of social rights. She will focus on these areas, which are crucial to uniting our society.\u2019 According to IR notes<\/u><\/a>, in her first speech, Roxana Minzatu emphasised the promotion of quality jobs and lifelong learning. She also defended the portability of skills, the inclusion of people with disabilities and the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence to develop key skills. She plans to launch an ambitious action plan for the European social rights floor.<\/p>\n
