For the first time, the Finnish Accident Insurance Centre (TVK) has isolated the medical-social sector from other local government departments. This new methodology enables a more detailed analysis of the 7.142 or so occupational accidents that occurred in 2023 among medical-social workers.<\/p>\n

Thus, while nurses working in healthcare establishments represent 37% of the professions most affected, followed by other nurses and midwives (26%) and then social workers and counsellors (7%), it is now possible to identify the professional activities most commonly performed prior to the occurrence of an accident.<\/p>\n

This analysis reveals that moving a person is the action preceding 42% of workplace injuries, followed by handling objects (19%). As for the main cause of a workplace accident, it is mostly linked to a slip, fall or trip (24%), sudden physical effort (18%) or violence or exposure to a shocking situation (16%).<\/p>\n
