{"id":35070,"date":"2025-11-13T15:02:38","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T14:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/?p=35070"},"modified":"2025-11-13T15:38:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T14:38:29","slug":"a-251st-substance-added-to-the-echas-candidate-list-of-substances-of-very-high-concern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/en\/a-251st-substance-added-to-the-echas-candidate-list-of-substances-of-very-high-concern\/","title":{"rendered":"A 251st substance added to the ECHA&#8217;s candidate list of substances of very high concern"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"72\" data-end=\"282\">On 5 November 2025, in Helsinki, the Committee of Member State representatives of <strong>the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) identified decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) as a substance of very high concern (SVHC).<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p data-start=\"72\" data-end=\"282\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-35067 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-145215-300x31.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"658\" height=\"68\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-145215-300x31.png 300w, https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-145215-1024x106.png 1024w, https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-145215-768x80.png 768w, https:\/\/eurogip.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Capture-decran-2025-11-06-145215.png 1462w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 658px) 100vw, 658px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"284\" data-end=\"505\">This substance is <strong>used as a flame retardant in various industries<\/strong>, including plastics and rubber (e.g. automotive components, cable sheathing), electronics (e.g. connectors, switches), and textiles (e.g. seats, curtains).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p data-start=\"507\" data-end=\"821\">According to ECHA, <strong>DBDPE is <em data-start=\"535\" data-end=\"579\">\u201cvery persistent and very bioaccumulative\u201d<\/em> (vPvB)<\/strong>, in accordance with the criteria set out in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/reachonline.eu\/reach\/en\/annex-xiii.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Annex XIII of the REACH Regulation<\/a><\/span>. This means that it degrades very slowly and accumulates in living tissues (organs, fats, etc.), with the potential for magnification along the food chain.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"1041\">Once a substance is identified as a <em data-start=\"859\" data-end=\"893\">\u201csubstance of very high concern\u201d<\/em>, <strong>it is added to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/echa.europa.eu\/fr\/candidate-list-table\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Candidate List<\/a><\/span><\/strong>. <strong>This classification immediately triggers specific obligations for suppliers of the relevant product<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1429\">\n<li data-start=\"1043\" data-end=\"1077\">\n<p data-start=\"1045\" data-end=\"1077\">providing a safety data sheet;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1078\" data-end=\"1120\">\n<p data-start=\"1080\" data-end=\"1120\">communicating information on safe use;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1121\" data-end=\"1172\">\n<p data-start=\"1123\" data-end=\"1172\">responding to consumer requests within 45 days;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1173\" data-end=\"1429\">\n<p data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1429\">notifying ECHA if the article they produce contains a substance of very high concern in quantities exceeding one tonne per producer\/importer per year, and if the substance is present in those articles at a concentration above 0.1% weight by weight (w\/w).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1431\" data-end=\"1445\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.echa.europa.eu\/-\/echa-adds-one-hazardous-chemical-to-the-candidate-list-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">To find out more<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Used as a flame retardant in many industries, decabromodiphenylethane (DBDPE) has been identified as &#8220;very persistent and very bioaccumulative.&#8221; \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":36,"featured_media":34215,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[907],"class_list":["post-35070","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-community-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
