Standardization to federate, boost and transform French industry

The Alliance Industrie du Futur organization recently presented its work on standardization policy to improve France’s industrial competitiveness.

The Alliance, formed in July 2015 to ensure, in particular, the deployment of the national plan “Industrie du Futur” (Industry of the Future), unites trade associations from industry and the digital economy, as well as academic and technological partners, around a shared ambition: to make France a leader in the global industrial renaissance and propel the entire national economic fabric into the heart of the new industrial systems.

The strategic aspect of proactive standardization is key to this approach, as emphasized by the French economy minister, Emmanuel Macron, for the deployment of the industry of the future in France and for the competitiveness of French technologies in Europe and worldwide.

This strategic aspect was strongly supported by French standardization association AFNOR a few months after the establishment of the Alliance Industrie du Futur, by launching a major consultation aimed at identifying standardization needs and expectations to assist industrial firms in the industry of the future.

This survey, to which Eurogip replied, led to the definition of nine guidelines for future standardization work. Standards could be developed on subjects such as “industrial robots, collaborative work and augmented reality: measurable criteria and acceptable limits to shocks between man and the robot”, or else “man’s role in the factory of the future”. No doubt the development of standards regarding the industry of the future, designed to make factories intelligent, connected and flexible in order to gain in competitiveness, will require an active watch to ensure that the “occupational safety and health” aspects are dealt with suitably.
