The EU issues an invitation to tender for managing New Approach consultants

The European Commission has published an invitation to tender for a structure which, for 24 months, will be responsible for recruiting and managing New Approach consultants on its behalf.

These consultants advise the technical committees during the preparation of European standards and ensure that the texts meet the requirements of the directives so as to be able to be published in the Official Journal.

The consultants’ current contracts will probably be extended until 1 April 2018 to enable the selected new structure to issue the invitations to tender and recruit the future HAS (HArmonised Standards) consultants, which will probably join the departments of the Commission, and no longer those of CEN/CENELEC. Their main task (20% of their work) will be to stay in direct contact with the CEN, CENELEC and ETSI technical organizations during the draft standard preparation phases. This should make it possible to check the content of the standards more rapidly and hence to cite them within more reasonable deadlines.
