Every year in the EU, around 100,000 people die of cancer due to exposure to carcinogens at work, and over 120,000 others are diagnosed with cancer. Faced with this situation, it is essential to ‘understand the risks and take action’. This is the aim of the new Carcinogens Roadmap website.

It aims to make information on carcinogenic substances in the workplace more accessible. Simple, concise factsheets are available. They guide users from the identification of hazardous substances to the measures to be taken to protect themselves from risks, based on the ‘STOP’ principle for Substitution, Technical, Organisational and Personal Protection measures.

The Roadmap on Carcinogens is a voluntary EU programme. Its aim is to prevent workers from being exposed to these dangerous substances. The programme encourages awareness-raising and the sharing of tools and solutions. It is supported by ministries in many European countries, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), BusinessEurope, EU-OSHA, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the European Commission.
