The proper gestures to know on construction sites for safety on international assignments

Home > The news of EUROGIP and occupational risks in Europe > The proper gestures to know on construction sites for safety on international assignments

Some gestures have different meanings depending on the country. Due to the globalization of construction markets, a growing number of machinery operators are working abroad, in regions of the world where the signs are different from those that they know and use in their home country.

To enhance operating safety and efficiency, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published an international standard presenting a set of universal command gestures for cranes that can be used on construction sites throughout the world.

ISO 16715, “Cranes — Hand signals used with cranes”, was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 96, Sub-Committee SC 5 – Use, operation and discussion – which has 31 national members, including Japan which provides the committee secretariat.
