Meeting in their congress in Paris on 2 October 2015, the European Trade Union Confederation called on the European Commission to safeguard the occupational safety and health regulations. The union representatives asked the European Commission, in particular, to:

  • Stop the investigations, revisions and discussions on the reduction of occupational safety and health legislation carried out under the “Better Regulation” programme;
  • Define an ambitious strategy and actions aiming to improve the increasingly precarious working conditions in Europe by combating the increase in psychosocial risks (PSRs) and the large number of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), and aiming at the recognition of “invisible occupational diseases”;
  • Ensure that the occupational safety and health legislation applies to all workers irrespective of the size of the firm;
  • Take specific regulatory measures to eliminate work-related cancers in Europe.

On 13 March, the European Parliament adopted by a very large majority the world's first “binding” regulation on artificial intelligence, based on the draft presented by the European Commission in April 2021. The Council must now formally adopt it.

DENMARK: A tool for creating a good working environment

An assessment of the working environment is an annual legal requirement for all companies with employees. Various tools are available, including the online tool developed in 2019 by experts at the Danish Working Environment Authority: the APV (arbejdspladsvurdering).
