As the working world evolves in line with new life styles, changing corporate practices and digitization, social welfare systems must be constantly adapted to new realities.
Today, around 40% of people having a job are in an atypical work situation – which means that they are not working full-time, within the framework of a permanent work contract – or are in a non-salaried work situation. These people do not always have good social protection, and among other things they do not always have occupational injury and disease insurance.
In accordance with the European Pillar of Social Rights, the Commission’s proposal aims to set a course for the Member States to promote access to social welfare for all salaried and non-salaried workers, especially those who, due to their employment status, do not have sufficient social protection.
