ITALY: Building safety by obeying the rules

An initiative designed by INAIL’s regional training office in Campania (Naples) aims to raise students’ awareness of the importance of acquiring a safety culture that they can promote not only at work but also in everyday life.

The 200-hour course over three years began last year with visits to enterprises and government departments that are virtuous with regard to health and safety and environmental conservation. The themes discussed were then examined in greater detail in the classroom.

This year, a video was created to launch a blog which makes it possible to share experience, make suggestions and report any dangerous behaviour. There students talk about the ground covered, and how they have changed their behaviour.

“We view rules such as wearing a helmet on motorcycles or a seat belt in cars as constraints, obligations that we comply with only because we are afraid of coming across gendarmes or police patrols. Thanks to INAIL, which guided us on this path, we have learned that safety and risk prevention start with us and by a change of attitudes”.
