Where a worker has been diagnosed as having COVID-19 and there is reasonable evidence to suggest that it was caused by occupational exposure, employers are required to report the case to the relevant enforcing authority under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013(RIDDOR).

Thus 8,666 cases were reported to enforcing authorities (HSE and LAs) over the period 10 April – 8 August, including 125 death notifications. The majority of reports received concern the Health and Social Work sector. The number of COVID-19 notifications made to enforcing authorities has fallen from a peak of 1,183 report in the week commencing 26 April, averaging around 160 reports per week throughout July. all cases that are reported to HSE and Local Authorities are being assessed and investigations initiated where incidents meet our published Incident Selection Criteria.

DENMARK: A tool for creating a good working environment

An assessment of the working environment is an annual legal requirement for all companies with employees. Various tools are available, including the online tool developed in 2019 by experts at the Danish Working Environment Authority: the APV (arbejdspladsvurdering).
