Because “Our heroes also need to recharge their batteries”, a new portal offers healthcare providers scientific guidance, practical advice and suggestions to support their mental and other well-being.

The “I’m recharging” initiative aims to meet the growing demand from doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and paramedics for additional tools to support them throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, a study carried out in May 2020 showed that seven out of ten nurses were at risk of burn-out. In addition, the “Power to Care” survey of 2,530 healthcare professionals in March 2021 highlighted the following feelings

  • feeling tired: 59% of participants
  • being under pressure: 51% of participants
  • not being able to relax enough: 47% of participants
  • lack of sleep: 38% of participants
  • concentration problems: 28% of participants.

The portal is structured around four themes: lack of sleep, fatigue, stress and emotions. The project was supervised by Professor Elke Van Hoof (VUB) and Laurent Moor, mental coach at the University Hospital of Liège and the Erasmus Hospital in Brussels and founder of the first fatigue clinic in Belgium.
