BELGIUM: 3 diseases added to the list of occupational diseases

Home > The news of EUROGIP and occupational risks in Europe > BELGIUM: 3 diseases added to the list of occupational diseases

By Royal Decree published on 9 August 2022, three new occupational diseases are added to the Belgian list: ovarian cancer caused by asbestos; uveal melanoma caused by optical radiation from welding; systemic sclerosis caused by inhalation of dust containing crystalline silica.

When a disease and its exposure criteria are included in the national list of occupational diseases, the causal link between the disease and occupational exposure is considered proven. Thus, the victim does not have to prove it. Victims of each of the three new occupational diseases included in the list will be able to file a claim for compensation from 19 August.
