Today, 21 May 2024, the Council approved a groundbreaking regulation on artificial intelligence (AI) that follows a “risk-based” approach. This means that the greater the risk of harm to society, the stricter the rules. It is the first of its kind in the world.
After being signed by the Presidents of the European Parliament and the Council, the legislative act will be published in the EU’s Official Journal in the next few days and will enter into force twenty days after publication. The new regulation will apply two years after its entry into force, with a few exceptions for specific provisions.
