For the year 2025, the French government has chosen to make mental health the “Great national cause”. Under the slogan “Let’s talk about mental health!” (Parlons santé mentale!), the aim is to improve understanding and support for this issue through a year of dedicated actions.
It was in this context that the association “Alliance pour la Santé mentale” (Alliance for Mental Health) raised the issue of this topic at the Meeting of French Entrepreneurs (REF) on August 28. On this occasion, the association launched the first Charter of Commitment to Mental Health in the Workplace.
Currently, whether due to work or other factors, one in four employees in France report poor mental health (source). Mental health prevention and management are therefore issues that also affect businesses, as psychological disorders are the leading cause of long-term sick leave (source). The Alliance for Mental Health therefore invites all organizations to sign this charter, which sets out concrete commitments in terms of prevention, training, support, and awareness.
Signatory companies commit to implementing four actions within three years:
- Raise awareness to demystify the subject of mental health;
- Establish a framework conducive to dialogue on prevention, quality of life, organization, and working conditions;
- Promote continuous improvement of working conditions;
- Provide support in individual situations.
In addition, it will “monitor and regularly evaluate the actions taken in order to measure their impact and continuously strengthen its commitment to mental health in the workplace. It will provide the Alliance for Mental Health with monitoring data to promote the exchange of best practices within the network of signatory companies.”
