The National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL) has published preliminary statistics on workplace accidents and occupational diseases for the year 2025. This document, published in the journal Dati INAIL, provides an initial overview of the reported data ahead of the release of the annual report.
According to these data, a moderate increase in workplace accidents was recorded in 2025, with 597,710 reports filed with INAIL. This represents a 1.4% increase compared to the previous year, a trend reflected in other indicators. In 2025, INAIL recorded:
- 516,839 workplace accidents involving workers (+1%)
- 80,871 workplace accidents involving students (+3.8%)
- 99,939 commuting accidents (+3.2%)
- 293 fatal commuting accidents (+4.6%)
- 792 workplace fatalities (-0.6%)
Regarding occupational diseases (OD), reports are rising sharply: in 2025, 98,463 OD cases were recorded by INAIL, representing an 11.3% increase compared to 2024. It should be noted that three-quarters of these reports are related to musculoskeletal disorders (+10.9%), while diseases of the nervous system increased by 11.1%.
