On 21 June, representatives (governments, employers, employees) of the 187 member States of the International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted the Convention to Combat Violence and Harassment in the World of Work by a large majority and a recommendation providing guidance on how the Convention should be implemented.

Each ILO Member State will have to adopt legislation requiring employers to take appropriate measures to prevent these phenomena. Protection extends to all workers, regardless of their contractual status, including volunteers and interns, and regardless of the economic sector (public, private, informal economy). Protection covers the workplace in the broadest sense, including work-related communications, carried out by means of information and communication technologies.
