Ivailo Kalfin, the new Executive Director of Eurofound, will be heard tomorrow 13 April by the European Parliament’s Employment and Social Affairs Committee before his official appointment for a 5-year term.

The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions is an EU agency. It was established in 1975 (Council Regulation (EEC) No 1365/75) and is located in Dublin, Ireland. Its mission is “to provide knowledge for better social, employment and labour policies” in Europe. It has about 100 researchers and analysts. The Board includes the European Commission as well as representatives of employers, trade unions and governments from all EU Member States.

There were 100 candidates for the position of Eurofound’s executive director, and the process lasted a year and a half. Ivaylo Kalfin was Minister of Labour and Social Policy and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Bulgaria and Member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2014.
