Occupational exposure of firefighters recognised as carcinogenic

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has now classified occupational exposure as a firefighter as a carcinogen (group 1) for mesothelioma and bladder cancer. This is the conclusion of a monograph carried out last June by 25 scientists from 8 countries, to be published in 2023, the main results of which have been published in “The Lancet Oncology”.

Machinery Regulation: green light to start negotiations

On 26 June, the Council's Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) approved the mandate for the Council Presidency to start negotiations with the European Parliament on the proposed Machinery Regulation. The new regulation is intended to replace the 2006 directive.

Provisional agreement on a minimum wage in the EU

The Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on 7th June on a new EU directive to establish a framework for “adequate minimum wages” in Europe. The aim is not to set a common European minimum wage.
