BELGIUM: 3 diseases added to the list of occupational diseases

By Royal Decree published on 9 August 2022, these three occupational diseases are added to the Belgian list: ovarian cancer caused by asbestos; uveal melanoma caused by optical radiation from welding; systemic sclerosis caused by inhalation of dust containing crystalline silica.

GERMANY: Almost 230,000 work-related Covid-19 cases since 2020

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the social accident insurances (BG and UK) have received more than 350,000 reports of work-related Covid-19. They have recognized the occupational nature of the pathology in more than 228,600 cases. Since the beginning of 2022, the figures are higher than in 2021.

Occupational exposure of firefighters recognised as carcinogenic

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has now classified occupational exposure as a firefighter as a carcinogen (group 1) for mesothelioma and bladder cancer. This is the conclusion of a monograph carried out last June by 25 scientists from 8 countries, to be published in 2023, the main results of which have been published in “The Lancet Oncology”.
