Occupational health faces new challenges. Economic crisis, immigration, demographic changes, unemployment, temporary work, work insecurity, ageing work force, mobile workers are merging factors which affect the health at the workplace. Prevalence of stress, depression and other mental disorders is likely to be related with the above risks. Common chronic diseases like cardio vascular, musculoskeletal problems are related to behaviors affected by the working conditions. New physical risks like EMF, nanotechnology and other new technological implementations demand new targeted effective, preventive measures. On the other hand, technologies facilitate health surveillance of the working force and enhance the applicability of measures that may improve health promotion at the workplace. In this framework Occupational Health Nurses (OHNs) have to be continually updated, applying evidence based practices to workers needs/best interest, imposing the revision of the context and strategies of occupational health nursing.

SIAS has a long tradition. It was first organised in Montreal in 1999. In the meantime, events in Bonn, Nancy, Chicago, Tokyo, Tampere and Montreal again marked milestones in the follow-up of the initial gathering. SIAS has become a steady appointment for OSH experts, players in industry and the public sector. Nowadays, while technological developments are continuing by leaps and bounds, the conference has grown all the more important: It is a forum to share proven safety solutions, identify emerging OSH risks in good time and discuss chances and drawbacks of technology advances on a regular basis.

In 2015 the Institut für Arbeitsschutz der Deutschen Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung (IFA) in Germany will be the conference host for the second time in the history of SIAS. After a successful event in Bonn on the Rhine at the beginning of the millennium, the conference will now move upstream to Königswinter at the foot of the Siebengebirge. The romantic landscape together with the approaching Advent season and the renowned German Christmas markets will set a perfect framework for fruitful and inspiring exchanges.

The USE 2015 conference concerns small enterprises, their social and economic environment and the conditions which promote occupational safety and health. It is intended mainly for decision makers, institutionals and researchers in the field of occupational risk prevention.

The conference, which is being organized by Gronigen University, includes a section on occupational safety and health. Several workshops are planned, including one organized by the INRS in partnership with EU-OSHA on practical online tools for small enterprises, in particular the OiRA tool for risk assessment.

The symposium is organised by the International Section of the ISSA on Prevention in Transportation.

Central questions will be: What are main causes and forms of violence and aggression? How can companies and organisations prevent violence and aggression successfully? What measures can and should be taken after incidents?

The focus of the 5th conference organised by the EUROSHNET network will be on the need to create conditions for improving the quality of working life in a rapidly changing world: how can standardization, testing and certification contribute? Which pitfalls should be avoided?

The congress aims to encourage discussion on progress in the area of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies. This international congress covers, in particular:

• Methods of detection or evaluation of exposure in the area of nanotechnologies;
• Mechanisms involved in the toxicity of nanomaterials;
• Environmental impacts of nanomaterials;
• Risk assessment and management when using nanomaterials and in nanotechnologies.

The SENN 2015 congress is intended mainly for occupational safety and health researchers, decision makers and institutions, experts in toxicology, materials science, metrology and risk assessment techniques, and OSH specialists in the area of nanomaterials and nanotechnologies.

The next “Débats d’EUROGIP” on the theme “Europe and occupational safety and health: what achievements? what outlook” will be held on 19 March 2015 (in Paris).

What is the situation regarding occupational safety and health in Europe? At a time when the European Commission has just adopted a new Strategic Framework for the EU for the period 2014-2020, the question will be put to the speakers at the conference.

Representatives of Community institutions, European social partners and the competent national organizations will review progress in the area of occupational safety and health since the Single European Act of 1986 (directives, framework agreements, strategies, etc.), possible problems of application, and the challenges to be faced in the coming years (economic crisis, emerging risks, population ageing, OSH management, etc.).

The EUROGIP Conference is organized in the form of round table meetings. Following each of them, time will be devoted to question and answer sessions between the speakers and the audience.

The Debates aim to facilitate the exchange of information and experience between the relevant stakeholders: public authorities, “safety” managers, social partners, human resources managers, industrial doctors, researchers, etc.

Brussels, Belgium, 4 March – 6 March 2015

Sharing knowledge and experiences to improve the working conditions of women and strengthen equality is the main objective of the international conference ‘Women’s health and work’ that the ETUI organises on March 4-6, 2015 at the ITUH in Brussels. The conference will touch on 6 areas organised in workshops of broad interest: health inequalities and division of labour; women workers exposed to chemicals, work organisation and the interaction with private life, the hardships of work, the design and use of protective clothing, personal protective equipment, tools and machinery for women’s work, and ageing and the long term effects of work. The latter workshop is organised by EU-OSHA.

The conference is organised in such a way that it will enable the symbiotic interaction between workers’ action and knowledge development in a dialogue among all stakeholders (researchers, professionals, trade union reps and activists) towards the improvement of women’s working conditions and health and strengthen links between European institutions and organizations engaged with improving working conditions and gender equality.

Brussels (Belgium), from 15 to 16 October 2014

On 15 and 16 October, the Spanish trade union institute Istas is organizing in Brussels, in partnership with the ETUI, a conference on psychosocial risks. The event will focus on a presentation of the results of E-impro, a project aiming to improve trade unions’ participation in psychosocial risk prevention. The project concerns France, Spain, Italy and Turkey.
